Job Summary:

The Technical Lead will be responsible for oversight and hands on activities in designing, building, implementing, and day-to-day maintenance of system capabilities as well as system integrations. It is expected that the Technical Lead will provide leadership and expertise in software development best practices as well as assisting IT leadership in strategic direction for the division and enterprise.

The Technical Lead role is an associate within the Markel Global Financial Systems Support Team, whose role is to support Markel’s global Oracle ERP/EPM core financial cloud services and other commercial off the shelf (COTS) financial applications. This role requires solid time management and organizational skills, as well as the ability to influence, work independently, and interact with a variety of roles across the organization. Interactions with senior management in support of technical and business outcomes are to be expected. There is a need to leverage business and technical expertise, as well as adaptability to function in multiple roles concurrently. As a member of the Global Financial Systems Support Team, you will train and work in an Agile Environment.

The primary role of this position is to partner with Finance business areas to elicit, analyze, validate and translate requirements into system/solution specification documents to create core project deliverables in support of the organization. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, systems analysis, testing and project management. The role will also work closely with Business Systems Analysts, Technical Teams, Software Vendors and Project Managers from other projects, business and third-party as well as other Managed Services teams as needed. This role is accountable for ensuring requirements and functional design for business systems projects, enhancements and change requests are well understood, documented, developed and tested. The establishment of SDLC processes, IT leading practices, SOX Audit Testing and implementation of IT governance procedures are also key accountabilities.

A secondary function of this position is to provide day-to-day support that can include such items as responding to service requests (e.g., assisting with system incidents) to executing system functions to complete system processing (e.g., running jobs to complete a monthly cycle). The position will have significant interaction with internal business customers in the US, Bermuda, and London.
